Dress RegulationsThe Dress Regulations for Officers, Warrant Officers and Cadets are laid down in ACP20B and this document provides guidance on how these are to be interpreted within LASER. In addition a dress code for Civilian Instructors has been included. Where this refers to Male Civilian Instructors, Females are to dress to an appropriate level, and vice versa. Abbreviations used in this section are shown below:
General NotesThe essence of Dress regulations is to ensure uniformity so that cadets from different Sqns wear the same. For the majority of activities this is the issued “Blue” uniform. Cadets in DPM are frequently mistaken for Army Cadets and so this should not normally be worn for Public Events without guidance from a Wing Staff Officer, as we have no wish for the ACF to take the credit for our cadets’ hard work! If
DPM has to be worn at a Public Event then High Visibility Jackets are to be
considered if traffic is involved. Cadets (inc. NCOs) may not wear No 1 uniforms or peaked caps unless they are playing in an ATC band. However, Cadet Warrant Officers (only) may wear peaked caps at the Sqn HQ with the permission of the Sqn Cdr. Inclement WeatherWhenever there is a chance of inclement weather then cadets in uniform are to have the issued Foul Weather Jacket available. Civilian jackets or DPM jackets cannot be worn over Blue uniform. Equally Foul Weather Jackets cannot be worn with DPM or on Adventure Training Exercises. Wing Adventure Training equipment is available to all cadets. High visibility vests are available for cadets to wear over uniform when operating in conditions of limited visibility, aircraft marshalling, car parking or travelling on foot along country roads. Marching on roads at night or in conditions of limited visibility is forbidden. Civilian InstructorsGuidance on Dress Codes for Civilian Instructors (CIs) can be difficult. However CIs should aim to dress to a similar level at the cadets i.e. when cadets are in open necked shirts then CIs may wear more relaxed dress and equally when cadets wear Wedgewood Blue shirts and ties then CIs should be more formal. The wearing of Sqn, Wing or ATC Polo shirts, sweatshirts etc is to be strongly encouraged. The Wing has a range of clothing that includes T-Shirts, Polo Shirts, Sweatshirts and Fleeces and Baseball Caps available to order at very reasonable prices. CIs may not wear any items of service uniform or DPM. Cadets take enormous pride in their uniform and appearance and it is beholden upon members of staff to match this. Scruffy staff in denim jeans, T shirts and trainers do not present cadets with a good role model. Special EventsFor special events, including Funerals, guidance of the
Wing Warrant Officer and the Wing Ad O should be sought at an early stage.
