Best Cadet Selection Process

The Best male and female cadet from each Squadron are invited for interview at RAF Halton by a panel consisting of a Squadron Leader and a Flight Lieutenant. The cadets are placed in order of merit and this list is given to all the Wing Staff to use as a master list to select cadets for high profile activities, such as the Dacre Sword/Broach nominations, Overseas Camps and Opportunity Flights, Lord Lieutenant's Cadet.

This is an annual event and is usually held in Spring of each year.

In 2002 the interviews were held at 1166 Welwyn Garden City Sqn on 7th July.

The process tests the cadets and scores them on the following:

  1. Achievements - 40% marks - This is based on the nomination form
  2. Inspection - 20% marks - Uniform Inspection on arrival
  3. Interview - 40% marks - Interview by Sqn Ldr

The interviews test the cadets on the following:

  1. Corps & Service knowledge.
  2. Participation & contribution in Corps. (Sqn, Wing & Corps Level)
  3. Character, personality and motivation - ability to represent the Corps.
