Vampire & Kelsey Trophy Rules

The Vampire Trophy is the annual inter squadron competition within Hertfordshire & Buckinghamshire Wing ATC. It is awarded annually to the squadron or detached flight, which receives the most competition points overall, following an adjustment for cadet strength, during a calendar year (01 Jan to 31 Dec). These rules will come into effect for 2006.

The competition will be sub divided into the following four sections: 

SECTION 1- Inspections and Administration 
SECTION 2 - Wing Competitions (excluding sports) 
SECTION 3 - Cadet Achievements (excluding examinations, statistically corrected) 
SECTION 4 - Cadet Examination Results (The Kelsey Trophy, statistically corrected) The Kelsey Trophy is awarded annually to the squadron or detached flight, which receives the most competition points in Section 4 only, following an adjustment for cadet strength.

Competition Points

SECTION 1 - INSPECTIONS AND ADMINISTRATION

SECTION 2 - WING COMPETITIONS

Points will be awarded according to the position achieved in the following Wing Competitions: Wing Exercise (e.g. Longmoor) Aviation Day Drill Competition Wing Centre Fire Competition Wing Night Exercise

250 pts being awarded to the unit achieving 1st place, 245 pts to 2nd place and so on. Where two squadrons tie for a particular place, both will be awarded the appropriate score. Non-participating squadrons will not receive any points.

SECTION 3 - CADET ACHIEVEMENTS

Points will be awarded for individual cadet achievement, (excluding examinations) gained during the year. Only one award will count in each category for a single cadet in each year, with the exception of Wing, colours in which one award in each particular sport may count in each year.

1 pt for each swimming certificate

Gliding Scholarship = 10 pts

1st Aid = 3 pts

Wing Sporting Blue = 5 pts

(Cadets who qualify through an outside authorised authority will be eligible to receive the above awards provided that their DEAS record books has been submitted to the responsible Wing Staff Officer and approved accordingly.)

Best Cadet Awards  75 pts being awarded for each cadet enterred.

SECTION 4 - CADET EXAMINATIONS

Points will be awarded upon attaining a pass at each Classification. 

First Class Cadet = 1 pt 
Leading Cadet = 4 pts 
Senior Cadet = 7 pts 
BTEC Award - Aviation = 15 pts

Correction Factor 

A correction factor will be applied to both sections 3 and 4 based on the classification of each unit based on the QSR's in June and September. The minimum squadron strength (not less than 30 or 15 for a detached flight) applicable to each unit's classification on 01 January of the year shall be used for calculation.
