The Principles of the Millennium Award

Personal commitment - All participants will make a personal commitment to volunteering.

Community benefit - There will be a discernible benefit to the community

Voluntary involvement - All participants will have chosen to become Millennium Volunteers.

Inclusively - All young people between 16 and 24 have the opportunity to take part in the Millennium Volunteers Award, regardless of gender, cultural background, religion or disability.

Ownership by young people - All participants will be able to make a difference and have their say in how the Millennium Award scheme operates within The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Variety of volunteering opportunities - ensuring you can "Build On What You’re Into".

Partnership with other organisations - The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award will work with other organisations to ensure that you have the best possible volunteering experience.

Quality of volunteering opportunities - The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award will try to ensure good quality volunteering opportunities, with an emphasis on health and safety and equal opportunities.

 Recognition of the achievements of all participants - a chance to be publicly recognised and thanked for the work completed.
