taess THE AVIATION ENTHUSIASTS SECURITY SCHEMEA
NEW ROLE FOR AVIATION ENTHUSIASTS.
In the summer of 2003 the need for increased security at airports and airfields throughout the World culminated in a possible threat to enthusiasts. Enthusiasts would be moved on from viewing spots and car parks as they were classed as a possible security risk. It is now recognised that
at most major airports there were usually more Enthusiasts than Police and at
smaller airfields, often unattended; this was nearly always the case. Enthusiast
can help in the battle against crime and terrorism by being the "eyes and the ears"
of the Authorities. The purpose of the scheme is to help the Authorities identify the true Aviation Enthusiast and the ID badge will be made available to all legitimate Enthusiasts. In applying for an ID the Enthusiast will agree to abide by the agreed Code of Practice. The Card is recognised by many Police Forces and Airfield Operators both in the UK and then Overseas. The issue of an ID does not confer entry to any private property, restricted or
secure area, but we are sure that many Airfield Operators will welcome THE
SCHEME as it will help them identify the real Enthusiast who recognise they
have a role to play. The Sponsoring Organisation, LAAS International has ownership of THE SCHEME but offers it at cost to all Enthusiasts whether they belong to the club or not.
taess– CODE of PRACTICE SECURITY-AIRPORTS· Be on the lookout for any suspicious activity. · Are there ‘strange’ individuals viewing that are not Enthusiasts? ·
Is there someone watching movements of people and vehicles? · The Police encourage everyone, but particularly those who know the workings of an airport and can therefore spot something out of the ordinary, to contact them if they believe something they see or hear is suspicious. · Even if you are unsure of your suspicion please don’t hesitate to contact a local officer or ring the Hot Line. · The source of your suspicion may turn out to be innocent, it could be related to criminal activity rather than terrorism and you may also be providing vital information. SECURITY-AIRFIELDS· In addition to the above always seek permission from the Airfield Control to enter Restricted Areas. · Never touch an aircraft, no smoking and keep a look out AT ALL TIMES. · Remember that PROPELLERS can KILL! VIGILANCE SAVES LIVES-DON’T HESITATE- CALL THE HOT LINE - 0800 789321 or SPEAK DIRECTLY TO A
POLICE OFFICER. Remember your role is to report suspicious activity, not to question or challenge individuals who are acting suspiciously. |
