Farewell to Wing Commander StockillHerts and Bucks Wing ATC has flown-out its retiring Wing Commander with a 600 mph flight in a Jaguar T4 from RAF Coltishall. Wg Cdr Stan Stockill swapped his Microlight for a Jaguar in a farewell flight of a lifetime, when he was invited to fly with Wg C Cdr Guy Stockill, OC 16(R) Sqn, which meant putting together the only two Stockills on the Air Force List.
The flight lasted one and half hours over Southern England and the North Sea, flying at 500 kts and down to 250 feet. Wg Cdr Stan Stockill flew some of the sortie, learning to fly tight turns and low level. He described the experience as one of the most exciting things he has ever done. The day's activities included a fast-jet medical, fitting of flying clothing and a video briefing on the Martin Baker ejection seat. After the flight Wg Cdr Guy Stockill presented his passenger with a selection of Jaguar memorabilia. Wg Cdr Stan Stockill was OC Herts & Bucks Wing for eight years and retires from the Corps in March 04, having completed over 40 years service, 30 of them in uniform. To the future, we will see him as he help to co-ordinate the Air Cadet contribution at the PFA Rally. Wg Cdr Guy Stockill is a former air cadet and being the boss of a fighter Sqn is what he describes as the best job in the world. |
