Former 2F Watford Cadet selected for Hawk Display Pilot 2006.

Flying Officer Martin Pert a former 2F Watford Cadet has been selected as the Hawk TMk1/1A Display Pilot for 2006. The RAF Valley (208 Squadron) Hawk Display is the public face of No 4 Flying Training School at RAF Valley. His Sqn and the Wing wish him a successful season and llok forward to his display.

Corporate Communications Course - Photos

Staff and Committee members from Herts & Bucks Wing recently joined their Beds & Cambs Wing colleagues for a Media Handling Training Day at RAF Henlow.

The course covered a broad range of Corporate Communications subjects including the writing of press releases, public relations photography, recruiting and crisis management. The day included practical elements as well as presentations and discussion led by the Central & East Region Corporate Communications Officer, Sqn Ldr Alan Wiggins, RAFVRT(T).

The course has been well received and it is hoped to run a further event later in the year.

ATC Sunday - Wing Parade

Well over 200 Herts & Bucks Wing (HBW) cadets commemorated the 65th anniversary of their organisation today (Sunday 5 Feb 06) with a parade and church service at RAF Halton

 15 year old Air Cadet, Cdt Cpl Charlotte Hunt, today (Friday 27 Jan 06) interviewed Rugby international Ben Broster for an article in Air Cadet magazine.

Air Cadet leaders recognised for commitment

Flt Lt Erica Vey the CO of 1066 (Hitchin) Squadron and Flt Lt Jem Davies the CO of 2409 (Halton) Squadron have been awarded for their dedication to the organisation’s cadets.  These medals were awarded during 2005’s “The Year of the Volunteer”.  Only 2,005 medals were awarded nationally to volunteer workers to recognise the time they give to the community.

Basic Expedition Leader Award (BELA)

The BELA is administered by Sports Leaders UK, and is an Award suitable for those who wish to work in lowland country which is close to habitation. It will be run over three weekends with a follow up moderation day. It is designed for those with a little outdoor experience, who wish to learn the skills of leading a party of novices in open country.

Adventure Training 2005

Following changes at Corps level in Adventure Training and Fieldcraft, the Wing has reviewed and now has a new and exciting range of adventure training. The Wing Adventure Training Group is being reformed and will be included within the Technical Adventure Training Panel.

WING SPORTS AWARDS 2004

Nominations for the Male and Female Sports Cadets of the Year have been received and the winners have been announced as follows. The awards are not given lightly and take into consideration all ATC-related sports activities as well as sports in the local community. Both winners actively partake to a high level within the ATC and also participate in the training and development of younger sports teams in their chosen activities. Many congratulations to the two winners.

Male Sports Cadet of the Year = Cdt Matthew Vickers (1239 Sqn)

Female Sports Cadet of the Year = FS Sarah Guilfoyle (871 Sqn)

Congratulations to 220 (St Albans) Sqn for winning the Stockill Cup for the 2003/04 sports season. The Stockill Cup is awarded to the Best Overall Sports Squadron in the Wing. This is based upon performance at Wing Cross Country, Swimming and Athletics. It also takes into consideration the number of Wing, Regional and Corps Blues and the number of Cadets taking part in trials and competitions.

1st = 220 Sqn (305 pts)

2nd = 2409 Sqn (236 pts)

3rd = 248 Sqn (196 pts)

Wing Aviation Day

Congratulations to 220 St Albans Sqn on winning the overall trophy for Wing Aviation Day. A good standard was achieved across all the different competition with some excellent results. The Region Training Officer visited during the day and was impressed by the standard and the enthusiasm.

Wing Field Day - Longmoor 2004

27 Sqns entered teams eight cadets in this years Wing Exercise at Longmoor.

The exercise was run over the late May Bank Holiday weekend at the Longmoor Army training area in Hampshire starting on the Friday evening and not finishing until Monday lunchtime. The cadets ranged in age from 14 to 19 years.

The cadets' were enthusiastic participating in 12 events.

The Exercise included a wide range of activities such as tests of First Aid (as a part of an incident management exercise), leadership, navigation and shooting. Additionally the cadets' physical endurance was tested to the full with a log-run (when the cadets had to complete cross-country obstacle course while carrying two pine poles), an orienteering route and a 4 km speed mach. On Monday the cadets competed in the 12th and final event, the Confidence Course. As well as supervision from Adult members of the ATC, the weekend benefited from assistance provided by regular serving Royal Air Force personnel.

Region Athletics 2004

The Wing Team did well at this years Inter-Wing Athletics winning the Group A (Junior Boys) Trophy. Many were selected to represent Central & East Region at the Corps Athletics.

Cdt Hunt from 2409 Sqn won the 800 mtrs with a new Region Record.

Council for Cadet Rifle Shooting

2409 Halton Squadron 'A' Team achieved third place in the Full Bore 7.62 Target Rifle Competition for 2003/04. This is a tri-service Commonwealth Postal Shooting Competition and the ATC achieved the best result for many years. 

Wing Awards - Presentation Ceremony

On Sunday 16th May 04 the awards presentation took place in Halton House Officers Mess in the South Drawing Room.

The awards were presented by Group Captain K Havelock AFC RAF, DACOS A5/Contingency plans from HQ Strike Command, RAF High Wycombe.

The 2004 Wing athletic took place a Hemel Hempstead on Sunday 9th May 04. 28 Squadrons attended and although a little cool, it ended up as a fun day with everyone having a good time. Link for photos & results

AVIATION ENTHUSIASTS ID CARD

An Aviation Enthusiast identification card is now available to members of the Air Cadets. Many Police Forces and Airfield Operators both in the UK and then Overseas recognise this ID Card. The issue of an ID does not confer entry to any private property, restricted or secure area, but many Airfield Operators welcome THE SCHEME as it will help them identify the real Enthusiast.

Farewell to Wing Commander Stockill

Wg Cdr Stan Stockill swapped his Microlight for a Jaguar in a farewell flight of a lifetime, when he was invited to fly with Wg C Cdr Guy Stockill, OC 16(R) Sqn. More about the farewell flight. 

Wing Awards - Presentation Ceremony

On Sunday 14th March 04 the first presentation of awards for Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and Cadets of the Hertfordshire & Buckinghamshire Wing, Air Training Corps took place at the Nursing Officers Mess at RAF Halton. The event gave us an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of our staff and the achievements of our cadets.

The medals and awards were presented by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire, Sir Nigel Mobbs KStJ JP. Also present was the Station Commander, Group Captain The Honorable David Murray OBE FCMI RAF.

The next presentations are at Halton House Officers Mess on Sunday 16th May 2004.
